GaragePay App Reviews
I really like this app for getting my PayPal balance and searching for specific transactions. The PayPal site is brutally slow, so this is a real relief. What Id really like to see is some tracking of PayPal subscriptions. Id like to search by subscription id and be able to cancel subscriptions in GaragePay. That would make my daily routine even that much easier. Personally, the amount of frustration Im already spared by using this makes the price worth it for me, but subscription support would make this app indispensable.
This app is EXACTLY what Ive been waiting for...well...almost. I run an SAAS web application with heavy focus on subscriptions. Paypal, unfortunately, is our only feasible option at the moment. I HATEHATEHATE having to login to paypal to do absolutely anything, especially when it comes down to hunting for a specific users subscription. This app not only simplifies the job, it actually makes it enjoyable. So why the 3 star rating? Well, at the moment it seems the application has one major flaw, it has no consistency when it comes to how many transactions it pulls from any given account. When I loaded my own personal paypal account, it seems to have pulled every transaction in my accounts history (back to 2008 with ~650 transactions), yet when I load my business account, I cant seem to pull more than a months worth of data (~400 transactions). I have no idea whether this a limitation through paypal, my paypal account, or simply a flaw in the application itself. Ive made attempts to contact the owner of the software and have seen others do the same to no avail. PLEASEEEE Garagepay creator, I beg of you to find a fix for this flaw. This is a 5 star application if it would just load everything I need from it.
I run a number of websites and get nearly a hundred Paypal payments per day. Some are very small one-time payments while others are larger subscription payments. Although I can log into Paypal and see what my balance is, theres no easy way via the their website to keep track of the transactions in any ongoing manner. With GaragePay, all of my Paypal transaction data is easily accessible at my fingertips. I love that I can create smart folders that work exactly as expected to allow me to run searches on my transaction data. I havent experimented with the CSV export functionality or the Send Money command, so I cant comment on those.
This app has a lot of potential and I can see it being a useful tool for manageing and organising PayPal transactions, and reporting on the massive amounts of information PayPal gathers. But I have found the app, in its current iteration, almost unusable because of these bugs: - If you want to edit an existing smart filter, or create a new one and then cancel, the dialog box will not close. The only way to get rid of it and use the app again is to close it entirely then reopen it. - Although it can be set to pull all PayPal transactions, in reality it pulls as many as it sees fit then stops. To get it to pull down more I had to close and reopen the app multiple times. - When adding notes to a transaction (a great feature if it worked) the software will see every word you type as a sort of keyword, and itll start searching and filtering all your PayPal transactions by those words, making the screen dance before you. Notes should not cause this to happen. - When sending money it can only be sent as "purchase" and not "personal" so you will always be charged a PayPal fee even when youre sending something that it genuinely personal (like a payment to a family member) that is a gift or payment owed. I did download the trial version from the developers site before purchasing it on the Mac App Store (MAS). But that trial is very limited - it only lets you see data for 30 transactions with the rest telling you its a demo and you need to buy before you can see more. So I had to take the chance, based on the MAS reviews, that it would be useful. And it truly would be if only these bugs were fixed. Why am I giving it 2 stars? Because all of the bugs I have listed are blatantly obvious and to the fore. How they got past the developers is beyond me. I have requested and received a refund for this product, which I am grateful for. My advice to potential buyers - just hold off until they update it to fix these problems. Once they do, it has the potential to be something great.
Ive been using this program for about a year and, in spite of its few annoying bugs, its been fine. Unfortunately its now become completely unusable. I get Cocoa errors whenever I attempt to save or quit my session, which means its impossible to save notes to orders. I use the notation to mark orders that have been shipped, so now this program is essentially unusable to me. Its a shame, it was a nice little piece of software for a while.
Just purchased and downloaded, put in my API creds… and almost immedietaly BOOM all of my transactions and reports fluttered into the app, filling with organization and amazing elegancy.. I can’t get enough of this app alreayd and know I will be using it for a long time to come, thanks much for this app, love it! - Reece reecefox.com
